What is Châmes?
Châmes is a hamlet within the commune of Vallon-Pont-d'Arc, set on the banks of the Ardèche at the entrance to the gorges. Far from the bustle of central Vallon, it is a peaceful spot, loved for its natural setting and its beach. A few markers:

The Châmes beach: swimming in the heart of the gorges
The Châmes beach is one of the most pleasant in the area for a quiet swim. The water is calm and shallow near the bank, which makes it perfect for families with young children. Between cliffs and pines, the setting is typical of the gorges, without the crowds of the best-known sites.

Châmes, start and finish of canoe descents
This is where Châmes really comes into its own: the hamlet is a pivot point for descents of the Ardèche. Depending on the route you choose, you either arrive here or set off from here.

Getting to Châmes
Châmes is reached by a small road from Vallon-Pont-d'Arc, a few minutes by car. A car park lets you leave your vehicle near the beach and the canoe departure point. In summer, it is best to arrive early: the hamlet is quiet but parking spaces are limited.
